DESWELL INDUSTRIES, INC. APPOINTS DIRECTOR FOR ELECTRONICS SUBSIDIARY HONG KONG (August 1, 2000) - Deswell Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ NM Symbol: DSWL) today announced that Mr. Dickson Ching-Ming Lam has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Deswell's electronics subsidiary, Kwanasia Electronics Co. Ltd. effective today. Mr. Lam has over thirty years of experience in the manufacturing and marketing fields. He previously served as Director of Marketing with the Company's plastics operation, Jetcrown Industrial Limited, since 1990. Prior to Jetcrown, Mr. Lam was the founder and Managing Director of Lam's Enterprises in Australia from 1986 to 1990, and of Eversuccess Industrial Co., Ltd. in Hong Kong from 1977 to 1986. Mr. Lam graduated from Shanghai University in 1964 with a major in Mathematics and Physics. "With over 30 years of solid experience and a successful track record of developing sales growth at Jetcrown, we believe that Mr. Lam further strengthens our electronic management and marketing team. This new mix of management aims to further develop our competitiveness to enhance our sales growth in the electronics market," Mr. Richard Lau, the Chairman said.
